DESCRIPTION OF WORKS
|
The prestigious
Whitstable Castle and its gardens will be undergoing
a £2.8 m Lottery Funded refurbishment running
from April - December 2009 to restore the castle to
somewhere near its original splendour.
Pierra Restoration Ltd are the contractor who will be
carrying out the much sought after restoration and new
stonework packages. the restoration package will include
extensive repointing to the ragstone walling, the rebuilding
of the castle's crenalations, Caen stone replacement
and indenting, lime mortar repairs and extensive replacement
of the existing rendering to the parapet walls with
lime based render.
The new stonework package involves the design, supply
and fixing of new Coombefield Whitbed ashlar, window
and door dressings, copings and cantilevered turrets
with knapped flints built between the stone dressings.
The knapped flint work will then be extended to the
garden areas of the castle where Pierra will be responsible
for the construction of the new garden walls. |
