Summary of Works
Overall Description of Works
The works comprised DOFF steam cleaning to the masonry surfaces using appropriate conservation techniques to carefully remove accumulated dirt, biological growth and atmospheric pollutants while protecting the historic fabric.
The project also included the design, supply and installation of new natural stone elements to match the existing profiles, including the site carving of decorative stone features to accurately replicate the original detailing.
Structural masonry repairs were undertaken to stabilise and strengthen defective areas of the building fabric, together with specialist conservation repairs and repointing works using compatible materials and traditional techniques. In addition, the clock face was carefully overhauled and redecorated, restoring both its functionality and visual prominence.
All works were carried out in close collaboration with Gravesend Borough Council and the local Conservation Officer, ensuring the repairs were undertaken in accordance with best practice for the conservation of historic buildings.
