Summary of Works
Overall Description of Works
Working within a busy central London, land-locked church with complex logistical challenges, the project involved the installation of a large reinforced concrete foundation slab to support a new plinth structure for the re-siting of The Conversion of St Paul statue, relocated from Soho Square.
PIERRA undertook the design, manufacture and installation of a new Portland stone plinth, together with the re-landscaping of the North Courtyard to accommodate the new installation. The works also included internal and external masonry repairs, incorporating careful and sympathetic stone indent repairs undertaken by specialist masons.
In the South Courtyard, existing paving was carefully lifted, set aside and reinstated on a new reinforced concrete substrate, alongside the installation of upgraded drainage to improve long-term performance and surface water management. As part of the reinstatement works, a bespoke cast-iron replica Penny Coin was designed, manufactured and set within the paving as a distinctive feature element. The scheme was completed with the installation of bespoke timber tree and shrub planters, together with soft landscaping works including new trees, shrubs and seating benches, enhancing the character and usability of the courtyard spaces.
